Kentucky Horse Fence
The racing of horses and Kentucky have a long shared history. In fact, in many minds, the two are inexorably linked. While driving through the state’s blue-grassed hills, you will often see miles of four planked wooden fencing following the gentle rise and fall of Kentucky’s countryside. Due to its resistance to weather and durability, Oak is more often than not the chosen material used to build fencing stout enough to contain the large and sometimes energetic animals. When the old fencing is replaced, it is usually snatched up as a good source of reclaimed Oak.
Recently CRL had the chance to buy out another company’s reclaimed inventory. Among all the interesting wood was a product dubbed Kentucky Horse Fence. The black substance on the wood is a special non-toxic coating that discourages the horses and other livestock from chewing the Oak planks. While you can purchase the wood “as is”, we have also found planing off the black coating allows the Oak underneath to shine through. This tongue and groove product can be purchased “as is” or planed.
