Cedar Siding & Paneling

Due to its rot resistance, durability and stability, Cedar is an excellent choice for most outdoor projects. While CRL does carry some beam stock, most of our Cedar inventory is best suited as paneling or siding. Unless otherwise stated, our Cedar is also FSC certified, making it a great choice for projects looking to lessening their carbon imprint.

Western Red Cedar

Also known as Giant Red Cedar, since the trees can reach heights of 230 feet. The trees tend to be long-lived, with some living as long as 1000 years.  The oldest confirmed tree is1460 years old. The wood is known for its tight, straight grain and few knots. Due to resistance to decay and strength compared to its light weight, it is often used when the wood is expected to be exposed to the weather.

Yellow Cedar

Yellow Cedar gains a good level of hardness due to slow growth. This gives it good stability and resistance to punishment from the environment and insects. Thus, this wood has long been considered one of the finest timbers in the world to build with, whether that is structural or boats. Easy to work with, whether by hand tools or machine, the wood tends to wear smoothly and resists splintering over time. Because of the expense of the wood, it is often used in finish carpentry.

Incense Cedar

Incense Cedar is named appropriately for its aroma, which may remind one of freshly sharpened number two pencils. Our locally sourced Incense Cedar is similar to Western Red Cedar in strength and grain texture. It has also been found to be more rot resistant and holds up better when left unsealed and in the weather compared to Western Red Cedar.

Much like our Ponderosa Pine, it has been rescued after devastating drought and fire damage.

Siding & Paneling

Our interior paneling and exterior siding products make a beautiful addition to any home or business. For outdoor use, some species will require special weatherproofing with an exterior sealer, paint, or stain. See our Rustic Barn Siding and Old Barnwood.

Patterns you see (such as Shiplap, Tongue and Groove, Channel Rustic, etc.) can be milled in any species we have in stock. If you have an idea for a particular siding or paneling, we can work with you to manufacture a special pattern to your specifications.
