Wood Slabs for Countertops & Tables

CRL does offer a small selection of hardwood for slabs, including Oak, Indonesian Mahogany, Rengas, and Babinga. Please contact us for current stock and dimensions.

Most of our Slab material is from locally sourced softwoods such as Ponderosa Pine, Sugar Pine, Incense Cedar, and Giant Sequoia. Drought, historic wildfires, and an epidemic of bark beetles have savaged the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, leaving behind forests of Standing Dead trees. The wood is salvaged and “rescued” from rotting uselessly on the forest floor or adding further fuel to future fires, thereby maintaining a sense of conservation even though the wood is newly cut down.

Standing Dead Ponderosa Pine usually has ‘Blue Stain’ in the heartwood.

Standing Dead Sugar Pine will have blue stain but usually only in the sapwood. When we get a Sugar Pine with blue in the heartwood, it is very special – see photos.

For years big saw mills paid less for Blue Stain Pine, but now a specialty market has grown from the unique and beautiful look of the product.

We usually have wood slabs in stock 2″, 3″, and 4″ thick, and 16″ to 36″ wide. We can specialty-cut extra long slabs 20′ and more, depending on available stock.
